Map the parties before the job titles
List the client, designers, principal contractor and other contractors relevant to the project. Then identify the appointed health and safety roles and their reporting lines. Similar terminology can conceal different mandates; use exact appointment wording and obtain practitioner review of legal responsibilities.
Illustrative reporting distinction
A client-side monitoring record flags a matter for the client and project team. The contractor still needs to manage its work and respond through its own arrangements. Recording a concern does not demonstrate that a corrective action was implemented, and an adviser’s visit does not establish day-to-day supervision of every activity.
Resolve interfaces explicitly
Agree who receives findings, who decides actions, who implements them and who checks evidence. Record the route for urgent concerns and for disputed findings. Where an appointment is unclear, clarify it before relying on a title to assign authority.
Use current legal and professional sources
Construction responsibilities must be considered against the applicable regulations and actual contract, with competent review. This page is an appointment-planning comparison. It does not allocate legal duties for an unknown project or provide a substitute appointment document.
Compare the evidence
| Interface | Clarification |
|---|---|
| Client to agent | What advice, reports and authority are agreed? |
| Contractor management | Who directs work and implements actions? |
| Findings to follow-up | Who responds, by when, and who verifies? |
| Project changes | Who authorises a revised appointment? |
